BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Rain is becoming a common theme for the UAB football team's Tuesday practice sessions.
The Blazers worked out for two hours in wet conditions on campus Tuesday morning in their first real chance at on-field preparations for this week's opponent, the Troy Trojans. UAB has now had three of its past four Tuesday sessions impacted by rainy weather.
"We had a good day despite the weather," UAB head coach Neil Callaway said. "The scout team did a good job and we got some quality work in. We had to cut some things short, but overall it was a good day."
"The biggest part is the field gets sloppy and people are slipping and sliding, but the effort, tempo and attitude were good, so I think we got some things out of it."
The Blazers (0-3) are preparing for a Troy team (1-2) that picked up its first win last weekend with a 38-35 victory over Middle Tennessee. The Trojans' losses have come to Clemson and Arkansas, a pair of teams that are currently ranked.
After two straight Conference USA games, the Troy contest will be the first of back-to-back non-conference contests for UAB. The Blazers will host Mississippi State the following weekend on Oct. 8.
Saturday's kickoff against Troy is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT at Veterans Memorial Stadium, and the game will be televised by SportSouth.
The game will be carried live on the Blazer IMG Sports Network, airing locally on 107.7 WUHT-FM. David Crane and John Whitcomb will call the action with Sam Miller roaming the sidelines. The pregame show begins 90 minutes before kickoff.
