Baseball's Jamal Austin Named Appalachian League Postseason All-Star

PULASKI, Va. ---- Former UAB outfielder Jamal Austin continues to rack up awards in 2011 as he was recently named an Appalachian League Postseason All-Star. Austin plays for the Pulaski Mariners, which is the rookie-class league affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
Austin, a first team All-Conference USA selection for the Blazers this past season, produced in his first year playing professionally. He was a selected in the 13th round by the Mariners following a standout junior campaign.
While roaming the outfield for Pulaski, Austin led the team in batting average (.335), hits (69), stolen bases (20) and on-base percentage (.405). He also showed great plate discipline, with more walks (22) than strikeouts (21).
Pulaski missed the playoffs and concluded the season with a 32-36 record, finishing third in the Appalachian League East Division.
