UAB Holds Last Full Practice Before Tulane Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB football team practiced in shorts and shells at the UAB practice field as the Blazers continued to prepare for the home and Conference USA opener on Saturday against Tulane.
Head coach Neil Callaway was pleased with the team’s effort during the workout that lasted just over an hour on a brisk Thursday morning.
“We honed in on Tulane today,” Callaway said. “It was a good practice and the guys were good spirited. Tuesday and Wednesday are the team’s two hard days. We have to learn to work on those days, but they were good today.”
The game captains for Saturday’s matchup will be center Darion Smith on offense, cornerback Marquis Coleman on defense and linebacker Greg Irvin on special teams.
“I’m excited about playing at home and that it’s conference play,” Callaway said. “We have one non-conference game under our belt. We certainly expect to improve and be ready to go.”
Saturday’s matchup is slated for a 3 p.m. CT kickoff at Legion Field. The contest will be carried live on the Blazer IMG Sports Network, airing locally on 107.7 WUHT-FM. David Crane and John Whitcomb will call the action with Sam Miller roaming the sidelines. The pregame show will start at 1:30 p.m.
