NORMAN, Okla. -- The UAB women's soccer team fell behind 4-0 in the first half to the Oklahoma Sooners before dropping a 5-0 decision on Friday night at John Crain Field.
It was the 2011 season opener for both teams."Oklahoma is a very good team and they did what they set out to do," head coach Harold Warren said. "We had good moments, but they out-hustled us and we'll learn and grow from it."
The Sooners (1-0) took the lead three minutes into the match when Zoe Dickson scored off a pass by Sam Howell. Eight minutes later Katharine Nutman passed to Michelle Alexander who put Oklahoma up 2-0.
Dria Hampton tacked on a third goal for the Sooners less than three minutes later from 35 yards out. Kelsey Kraft capped off the scoring in the first half, scoring off a deflected shot fired by Kelly Price.
Oklahoma added their final goal early in the second half netted by Caitlin Mooney.
The Blazers' best scoring opportunity came in the first minute in the second half when senior Pascale Pinard fired a shot that ricocheted off the cross bar.
UAB (0-1) returns to the pitch on Sunday, traveling to Stillwater, Okla. to take on Oklahoma State. The Blazers and Cowgirls kick off at 1 p.m. CT.
