BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB freshman forward Karisma Chapman has been named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team, as announced Sunday by the league office. Chapman becomes the seventh Blazer in school history to earn all-freshman accolades.
Chapman averaged 7.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game this year for UAB. She was the team's third-leading scorer in league action at 9.1 points per game. The Calumet City, Ill., native was named C-USA Freshman of the Week on Feb. 21 after she averaged 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in the Blazers' contests against Marshall and SMU.
The 5-11 forward registered six double-digit games this season, including a career-high 20 points against Tulsa on Feb. 10. At East Carolina on Jan. 27, Chapman posted her first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She grabbed double-figure rebounds on three occasions, with a career-high of 12 against Austin Peay on Jan. 2. She also had a career-best five steals in that contest.
Chapman joins former Blazers Jala Harris (2009-10), Britney Jones (2005-06), Natasha Thomas (2000-01), Michelle Smith (1999-00), Deanna Jackson (1998-99) and current senior Amanda Peterson (2007-08) as all-freshman honorees.
Chapman and the seventh-seeded Blazers will take on No. 10 seed Marshall at the C-USA Championship on Wednesday at Memorial Gym in El Paso, Texas. The two teams tip off at 12 p.m. MT/1 p.m. CT.
