BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team returns to Bartow Arena Thursday to host the UCF Knights. The two teams will square off at 7 p.m. CT.
UAB leads the series, 11-5, including a 7-4 record against UCF since the Knights joined Conference USA for the 2005-06 season. In their last meeting on Jan. 13, the Knights earned a 65-55 win in Orlando. The two teams split the series last year, with each team winning on the road. The Blazers won, 69-61, at UCF Arena on Jan. 17 before the Knights earned an 80-73 win at Bartow Arena on Feb. 12. Although UCF has won four of the last five meetings between the two teams, UAB is 4-2 when playing the Knights in Birmingham.
The Blazers (14-12, 6-7 C-USA) are coming off a 53-49 victory over SMU, marking the program's first win in Dallas. Sophomore guard Amber Jones led the team with 20 points and five steals in the contest. Jones is averaging a team-leading 11.5 points per game this season.
Freshman forward Karisma Chapman scored 17 against the Mustangs and chipped in four steals en route to her first C-USA Freshman of the Week honor. Chapman netted 13 points against Marshall last Thursday, giving her five double-digit performances this season.
The Knights bring a 16-10 overall and 9-4 C-USA record into Thursday's contest. UCF has won five straight games, including a 69-52 victory over East Carolina in the Knights' last outing on Sunday.
UCF has a trio of players averaging double digits, led by D'Nay Daniels' 14.2 points per game. Chelsie Wiley (14.1) and Aisha Patrick (10.5) also are averaging double figures. Patrick is the team's top rebounder as well, grabbing 8.4 rebounds per game.
