UAB Softball Blanks Ole Miss 3-0 In Saturday Opener

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The UAB softball team prevailed in a defensive battle Saturday, blanking Ole Miss, 3-0, at the USF Tournament at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
With the win, the Blazers improve to 4-4 while Ole Miss falls to 2-6.
The matchup between the Blazers and the Rebels featured solid defense and pitching, with both teams combining for six hits, three of which occurred in the final two innings.
Leigh Streetman (1-1) went the distance for UAB, surrendering just four hits and fanning four batters.
Caley Walden blasted a double to left center in the third frame and scored the game's first run on two consecutive wild pitches by Ole Miss' Lindsey Perry.
The Rebels threatened to score in the sixth after Corrine Doornberg belted a hit to leftfield and RT Cantillo reached on a walk. But with two outs and both runners in scoring position, Londen Ladner flied out to centerfield.
UAB solidified its lead in the sixth after Catherine Douglass advanced to second on two consecutive Rebel miscues and rounded the diamond on a double by Kayla Orr. Orr moved to third on an Armstrong groundout before scoring on a Mandy Lowman double to give the Blazers the 3-0 advantage.
Perry (1-2) took the loss despite a solid day in the circle, giving up two hits and allowing no earned runs. Kendall Bruning took over in the sixth inning, giving up one earned run on two hits.
Next up, UAB faces No. 25 DePaul this afternoon at 3 p.m. ET.
