UAB Takes Four-Game Winning Streak To Marshall

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team takes its four-game winning streak on the road this week, traveling to Marshall for a Thursday contest. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, W. Va.
Marshall leads the series, 7-6. UAB won the season's first meeting against Marshall, 74-46, on Jan. 30 in Birmingham. The home team won each of last year's contests, with Marshall capturing an 85-84 double overtime win in Huntington on Jan. 30 before the Blazers earned a 45-44 victory in Birmingham on Feb. 27. UAB is 2-3 against Marshall in the Cam Henderson Center and 5-7 against the Herd since it joined Conference USA for the 2005-06 season.
UAB (13-11, 5-6 C-USA) is coming off a 74-45 victory over Southern Miss on Sunday. The Blazers had their best shooting performance of the season against the Lady Eagles, shooting 49 percent from the field, including a 56 percent clip from beyond the arc.
While sophomore guard Amber Jones continues to lead the Blazers in scoring with 11.2 points per game, senior guard Amanda Peterson and junior guard LaShaunda Pratt have become consistent threats in conference action. Pratt is averaging 12.7 points per league game, while Peterson is not far behind at 12.4.
The Thundering Herd (6-18, 2-9 C-USA) has lost nine of its last 10 games, including a 71-59 decision against UCF on Sunday. Since the last meeting with UAB on Jan. 30, Marshall is 1-3, with the only victory coming at Southern Miss, 57-48, on Feb. 6.
The Herd averages 53.0 points per game while giving up 65.6 to its opponents. Marshall is shooting 36.5 percent from the field, while its opponents have hit 41.9 percent of their shots. The Herd is led by Tynikki Crook with 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
