BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After two impressive all-around performances over the weekend in the UAB Thanksgiving Classic, Blazer sophomore forward Karisma Chapman was selected Monday as the Conference USA Player of the Week for women's basketball.
Chapman, who averaged 16.5 points per game in victories over Southeast Missouri and Western Kentucky, was also named the player of the week for C-USA by collegesportsmadness.com.
A product of Calumet City, Ill., Chapman added 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per contest last week. She connected on 56 percent of her shots (14-of-25) and turned in nearly identical performances in the two UAB victories.
On Friday against Southeast Missouri, Chapman posted 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in UAB's 64-41 win. She scored 14 of her 16 points in the first half as UAB outscored SEMO, 50-21, over the opening 20 minutes.
One day later against Western Kentucky, Chapman tied for game-high honors with 17 points and also logged seven rebounds, four steals and two assists in a 58-36 Blazer victory.
