BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After four consecutive road games, the UAB women’s soccer team will return to West Campus Field for a four-game homestand on Friday beginning with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at 7 p.m. CT. The Blazers will conclude the weekend with a Sunday afternoon matchup against SMU. Game time is slated for 2p.m. CT.
“We have only played three games at home this season so we are excited to be playing at home for four games in a row,” head coach Harold Warren said.
Last weekend, the Blazers (3-7-1, 0-2-1 C-USA) battled Marshall to a 1-1 draw in double overtime Sunday. UAB’s contest with East Carolina on Sept. 30 was suspended due to severe weather. The game, which will be made up on Oct. 30, was tied 1-1 in the second half before the delay.
Midfielders Emma Smith (3g-0a) and Carolyn Polcari (2g-2a) top the team with six points apiece. Freshman goalkeeper Katie Getzinger leads the league averaging 7.00 saves per game. The Haddonfield, N.J. native is third in the conference with 56 saves in just eight games played.
Tulsa (7-4-2, 1-2-1) treks to Birmingham after concluding a six-game home stretch last weekend. The Golden Hurricane split two C-USA games as it topped Houston, 2-1, in overtime on Friday before falling 2-0 to Rice on Sunday. Sophomore forward Claire Nicholson leads Tulsa with four goals and two assists for 10 points.
UAB trails Tulsa 3-2-1 in the all-time series. The Blazers suffered a 4-1 loss at Tulsa in the last meeting on Oct. 17, 2010.
SMU (7-5-0, 3-1-0) will take on UAB after a Friday showdown against league-leading No. 6 Memphis (12-0-0, 4-0-0). Last weekend, the Mustangs completed a five-game homestand with a 1-0 loss to Rice Friday and a 1-0 victory against Houston Sunday. Junior forward Kenzie Scovill paces SMU with nine points (4g-1a).
The Mustangs hold a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series. The Blazers fell 3-1 in the last meeting on Oct. 15, 2010 in Dallas.
Live stats will be available for both games. All-access subscribers can view Friday’s game on www.UABsports.com.
