CASHIER, N.C. ---- Paul Dunne and Hunter Hawkins each carded an even par score of 71 as the UAB men's golf team sits in second place after the first of two days of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley on Monday.
The Blazers registered a team score of three-over par (287) on the par-71, 6,767-yard course as tee times were delayed until 11:30 a.m. ET due to heavy frost. UAB sits five shots behind the leading squad in the clubhouse, Gardner-Webb, which fired a two-under par 282 as a team.
"We didn't play great, but we didn't play real bad either," head coach Alan Kaufman said. "We still have a chance to win the tournament if all five players step up on Tuesday."
Both Dunne and Hawkins are tied for 10th overall after the first day of the tournament, while Sam Love shot one-over par (72) to sit tied for 17th place.
The 17-team field will return to the links Tuesday morning with the first tee time slated for 8 a.m. ET.
