BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's soccer team's performance on the pitch is beginning to reap benefits in the national soccer scene.
The Blazers, who have won five straight games to improve to 10-3-2 overall and are 4-1 Conference USA, are ranked No. 14 in the nation in the latest NCAA RPI rankings, which were released on Tuesday. It is the highest RPI the men's soccer team has had since being ranked with an RPI of No. 9 in the country during the 1999 campaign.
In addition to the RPI ranking, UAB has also returned to the national rankings in nearly every major poll. The Blazers are ranked as high as No. 25 in the country in the Soccer Times poll. The Green and Gold are also ranked in the College Soccer News (No. 29) poll and are receiving votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) top-25 rankings (27th).
The Blazers will face a stiff test on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. when they travel to Dallas, Texas to take on the SMU Mustangs, who own an RPI of No. 13 in the country. The Mustangs are also ranked as high as No. 15 in the nation this week.
