BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB football team practiced late Thursday morning as the final tune up for Saturday’s game at Tulsa. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT in Tulsa, Okla. at H.A. Chapman Stadium and will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. Dave Ryan (play-by-play) and Rich Rodriguez (color) will be on the call.
The team worked out in shells and shorts for a little over an hour on the UAB practice fields. Head Coach Neil Callaway announced the team captains for Saturday, with Darion Smith (offense), Lamanski Ware (defense) and Drew Luker (special teams) earning the game recognition.
Overall, Callaway was pleased with Thursday’s practice and the team’s preparation throughout the week.
“We had a good day,” Callaway said. “It was our final rehearsal of Tulsa and trying to get everything figured out and make sure we have all our assignments.
“Tuesday and Wednesday were good practices. Of course today we didn’t ask a lot out of them physically, but overall it was a good week.”
Callaway also noted that Tulsa’s strength on defense was its front interior lineman and linebacking corps. Golden Hurricane middle linebacker Curnelius Arnick has totaled a team-best 64 tackles, 43 solo, while weak-side linebacker Shawn Jackson has made 44 total stops on the season.
“Defensively they are strong up the middle. The middle linebackers and two inside guys are good players, they are physical and the two ends are good pass rushers,” Callaway said.
The Blazer IMG Sports Network radio broadcast with David Crane (pbp), John Whitcomb (color) and Sam Miller on the sidelines will be available on WUHT-FM 107.7 in Birmingham. The pregame show will start 90 minutes before kickoff.
