UAB Hosts Tulane in C-USA Championship Rematch

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team hosts defending Conference USA champion Tulane on Sunday in a rematch of the league's tournament title game from last season. The Blazers and Green Wave tip off at 4 p.m. in Bartow Arena and the contest will air on ESPN2 with Pam Ward and Kara Lawson on the call.
Tulane leads the series, 20-9. The Green Wave won both meetings last season, earning a 64-56 victory in New Orleans during the regular season and a 52-45 win in the C-USA championship game in Tulsa, Okla. The Blazers have won the last three meetings in Birmingham and are 6-7 against Tulane in the Magic City, including a 5-7 record in Bartow Arena. The first meeting between the two teams in Birmingham, an 85-82 win for UAB, was held in Bell Gym in 1984.
The Blazers (8-6, 0-1 C-USA) fell short against Southern Miss, 46-43, on Thursday in the C-USA opener. Junior guard LaShaunda Pratt led UAB with 11 points, while senior guard Amanda Peterson added 10. Peterson became the school's all-time 3-point leader when she hit her 246th career 3-pointer against the Lady Eagles, surpassing the previous record of 245 held by Gina Sutko (1987-91). Peterson currently has 248 career treys.
UAB is led by sophomore guard Amber Jones, averaging 10.6 points per game. Junior center Meagan Brown tops the team in rebounding at 5.6 boards per game.
Tulane brings a 12-2 (1-0 C-USA) record into Sunday's contest. Tulane has won its last five games and eight of its last nine, including a 62-58 win over SMU in the C-USA opener for both teams Thursday.
The Green Wave is led by Tiffany Aidoo, averaging 13.4 points per game. Aidoo is one of five Tulane players averaging double figures, along with Danielle Nunn (13.2), Roshaunda Barnes (13.1), Olivia Grayson (12.5) and Brittany Lindsey (10.9). Brett Benzio tops the team with 7.6 rebounds per game.
