Women's Hoops Heads To Rice For Sunday Contest

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team heads to Rice for a Sunday Conference USA contest against the Owls at Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas. The Blazers and Owls tip off at 2 p.m. CT.
UAB leads the series, 3-2. Prior to last year's 72-58 loss to the Owls in Houston, UAB had won three in a row over Rice. The Blazers are 2-1 against the Owls in the Bayou City.
The Blazers (9-9, 1-4 C-USA) are coming off a 74-65 loss to Houston Thursday. Senior guard Amanda Peterson hit five 3-pointers in the contest and led the Blazers with 15 points. Peterson continues to shatter the school record for career treys with 260.
Sophomore guard Amber Jones leads the team with 10.4 points per game, while junior center Meagan Brown continues to top the team in rebounding at 5.7 boards per game.
The Owls have dropped back-to-back decisions, including a 79-57 loss to UTEP Thursday, and now stand at 10-9 overall and 2-3 in C-USA.
Freshman forwad Jessica Kuster not only leads the Owls with 12.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, but she also ranks as the league's top freshman and has been named Freshman of the Week a record six times this season. Junior forward Brianna Hypolite isn't far behind Kuster at 12.3 points per game.
