BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team heads to UCF for a Thursday contest against the Knights. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET at UCF Arena in Orlando, Fla.
UAB leads the series, 11-4, including a 7-3 record against UCF since the Knights joined Conference USA. The two teams split the series last year, with each team winning on the road. The Blazers won, 69-61, at UCF Arena on Jan. 17 before the Knights earned an 80-73 win at Bartow Arena on Feb. 12. Although UCF has won three of the last four meetings between the two teams, UAB is 7-2 when playing the Knights in Orlando.
The Blazers (8-7, 0-2 C-USA) are coming off an 81-53 loss to defending C-USA champion Tulane on Sunday. UAB currently tops C-USA and ranks 61st in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 57.4 points per game. The Blazers also rank 54th nationally in turnover margin (3.4) and 59th in turnovers per game (16.2).
UAB is led by sophomore guard Amber Jones, averaging 10.9 points per game. Junior center Meagan Brown continues to be the leader on the boards for the Blazers at 5.5 rebounds per game.
The Knights bring a 9-6 record, including a 2-0 record in Conference USA action, into Thursday night's contest. UCF has won four games in a row, including a 67-43 victory over Southern Miss on Sunday.
Chelsie Wiley leads the team with 14.6 points per game, while D'Nay Daniels isn't far behind at 14.2 points per game. Jelisa Caldwell and Aisha Patrick are also averaging double figures at 10.9 ppg and 10.6 ppg, respectively. Patrick also tops the team in rebounding at 8.1 boards per game.
