BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Amanda Peterson, a senior guard for the Blazer women's basketball team, has been selected as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
On the court, Peterson is UAB's second-leading scorer with an average of 8.1 points per game through 15 contests this season. The Homewood, Ala. native became the 24th UAB women's basketball player to crack the 1,000-point plateau, acheiving the feat against Austin Peay on Jan. 2. In her next game, Peterson set the school record by hitting her 246th career three-pointer and has now made more treys (249) than anyone in program history. One of just two players to start all 15 contests this year, Peterson leads the team in minutes per game (28.3), three-point field goal percentage (.363) and three-pointers made (33) and attempted (91).
An exercise science major with a 3.68 GPA, Peterson was a Conference USA All-Academic Team selection in 2009 and 2010. She has also been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll three times and received the league's academic medal once.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Saturday morning on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:30 a.m. on ABC 33/40.
Peterson and the Blazers (8-7, 0-2) return to action Thursday, Jan. 13 when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to take on C-USA rival UCF for a 6 p.m. CT tipoff.
