BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB junior quarterback Bryan Ellis has been named the Conference USA Offensive Player-of-the-Week following his performance in the Blazers' 34-33 come-from-behind victory over Troy last Saturday at Legion Field, the conference office announced Monday.
Ellis, from Byron, Ga., came off the bench and played just over two-and-a-half quarters in the contest. He threw for 360 yards and three touchdowns in the game as he connected on 23-of-37 passes. His final touchdown of the game came on a 44-yard `Hail Mary' pass play to freshman wide receiver Jackie Williams.
Ellis, who was seeing the first significant action of his UAB career, also had touchdown passes of 36 yards (also to Williams) and 33 yards to Frantrell Forrest.
The 44-yard, game-winning touchdown capped off a 99-yard drive that Ellis engineered after the Blazers took possession with only 1:09 remaining on the clock and holding no timeouts.
Ellis' 360-yard passing performance represents the 11th-best single-game mark in UAB history.
