FORT WORTH, Texas -- The UAB volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 27-25) setback Friday night against the host Horned Frogs in its second match of the day at the TCU Nike Invitational.
UAB libero Heather Thomas turned in another strong performance with a match-best 17 digs, but the Blazers (3-8) struggled to get their offensive attack on track against TCU (8-4).
The Horned Frogs held UAB to a .145 attack percentage, racked up 10 blocks and out-dug the Blazers, 60-46. Five TCU players reached double-digit digs, led by Christy Hudson, Irene Hester and KayLin Connolly with 12 each.
On the offensive side of things, Hester led all players with 13 kills, while TCU teammate Jordan Raines managed 11.
For UAB, which lost earlier in the day against Ohio, Jordan McDonald again recorded a team-high nine kills. She also managed nine digs, nearly posting a double-double. Michelle Uzoh and Kate Morrell added six kills each.
After TCU won the first two sets decisively, UAB came out of the intermission refocused and played its best set of the match in the third frame.
McDonald had six of her nine kills and Uzoh tallied five of her six as the Blazers' hit for a .286 percentage in the third. UAB led as late as 24-22 with two set points before TCU took a timeout, regrouped and won five of the next six points.
TCU setter Meghan Horio dished out 31 assist for the Horned Frogs, while Becca Howard (15) and Alison Woods (10) combined for 25 for UAB.
The Blazers will close out the weekend Satuday at 11 a.m. against UTSA as they wrap up a 12-match stretch away from home.
