BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB football team continued preparations for Saturday's matchup against in-state foe Troy by working out for just over an hour and a half Thursday morning in shorts and helmets at the UAB practice fields.
Wrapping up Thursday's practice, Blazer head coach Neil Callaway said his defense still has some work to do before facing Troy's quick-paced offense, which is much different in style than last week's opponent, SMU.
"We're still trying to work on Troy, particularly our defense preparing for their offense," Callaway said. "We have a lot of challenges to tackle, so we're just trying to match up with their players, what they do and how fast they go."
The Blazers enter Saturday's in-state battle eager to take the eighth all-time meeting with Troy. The Trojans lead the series, 4-3, after claiming last year's contest in Troy.
Callaway named senior RB Justin Brooks as the offensive captain, sophomore LB Marvin Burdette as the defensive captain and junior CB Ugonna Amarikwa as the special teams captain for Saturday's contest.
The Blazers and Trojans kick off at 3 p.m. CT at Legion Field. The game will be carried live on the Blazers ISP Sports Network and can be heard in Birmingham on 107.7 WUHT-FM. David Crane, John Whitcomb and Otis Leverette will call the action with the pregame show beginning at 1:30 p.m.
