Austin, German Receive All-Star Nods In Summer Baseball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Two more UAB baseball players have earned all-star invitations in their summer league.
Outfielder Jamal Austin (Lima Locos) and catcher Jacob German (Delaware Cows) will participate in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League All-Star Game, scheduled for July 14 at Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Earlier this week, Blazer pitcher Ryan Woolley was selected for the California Collegiate League All-Star Game, also to be played July 14.
Austin is hitting .412 with a .455 on-base percentage to lead Lima in both categories. The Kennesaw, Ga., product has stolen eight bases in 15 starts this summer and is also tied for the team-lead with 21 hits. A second-team All-Conference USA selection this past spring, Austin will be a junior at UAB in 2011.
A strong-armed catcher, German has thrown out four of seven potential base stealers and has also appeared in five games on the mound for Delaware. A product of Hoschton, Ga., German has has 12 hits, including a pair of doubles, and five RBI. He will be a sophomore for the Blazers next spring.
In addition to those current players, UAB signee David Hayes (Delaware Cows) also earned all-star honors in the Great Lakes league. A pitcher from Homewood High School in the Birmingham area, Hayes pitched at Shelton State Community College last year but will enroll at UAB as a junior this fall.
