Woolley Achieves All-Star Status In California Collegiate League

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB pitcher Ryan Woolley will compete in the California Collegiate League All-Star Game, scheduled for July 14 at Major League Baseball's Urban Youth Academy in Compton, Calif.
The right-hander, pitching in the summer league for the San Luis Obispo Blues, is one of 50 players selected to participate in the game in addition to an individual showcase for professional scouts.
Woolley owns a 2-0 record with a 2.57 ERA in five starts this summer. The Montclair, Va., native has struck out 40 batters and walked nine in 28 innings while holding opponents to a .229 batting average. The Blues are in second place in the CCL standings with an 18-9 overall record.
At UAB this past spring, Woolley appeared in 16 games with nine starts and posted a 3-4 record. He was drafted in the 39th round of the June draft by the Texas Rangers but also has one year of college eligibility remaining if he chooses to return to UAB.
The CCL is a summer collegiate, wood bat league composed of teams in Southern California and Las Vegas. The July 14 all-star game will be televised live by Fox Sports West at 7 p.m. PT.
