GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- In warm temperatures Saturday, the UAB track and field team competed in three relay events during the final day of the Pepsi Florida Relays hosted by the University of Florida.
UAB claimed sixth in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 58.28. The squad of Akira McSwain, Lytrice Thomas, Timara McMillan and Samantha Hamilton ran the third-fastest shuttle hurdle relay in UAB history.
"The girls really came out and ran well," UAB interim head coach Kurt Thomas said. "It's been hot the past two days, but they took care of business. Our shuttle hurdle relay ran well against the top hurdling teams in the country."
In the 4x200m relay, a mostly freshman squad of Shakima Knox, McMillan, McSwain and Angel Watson clocked a season-best time of 1:37.75 to become the fourth-fastest relay in school history.
Watson, Thomas, Rachel Harley and Bianca Le'Blanc all ran season-best splits to combine for an outdoor season-best time of 3:50.01 in the 4x400m relay.
"I'm proud of all the girls that competed this weekend," Thomas said. "To come out and compete your best at a big meet among the nation's top competition is what it's all about."
Up next for the Blazers is the Sea Ray Relays on April 10 hosted by the University of Tennessee.
