BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB baseball team concludes a nine-game homestand Tuesday with a 3 p.m. CT first pitch against Alabama A&M at Young Memorial Field.
All UAB employees will receive $1 admission with a valid UAB ID.
Tuesday will mark the seventh time the Blazers and Bulldogs have played since their first ever meeting in 2007. UAB has won each of the previous six contests, including a doubleheader sweep of Alabama A&M last year in Birmingham.
The Blazers (6-3) won their second consecutive series to open the season by taking two out of three games over the weekend from Eastern Illinois. A pinch-hit single from Devin Hamilton in the bottom of the ninth inning scored the game-winning run Sunday as UAB won 4-3 to clinch the series.
The UAB lineup features reigning Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week John Frost, who tallied multiple hits in all four of UAB's games last week on his way to a .463 batting average over that stretch. For the season, Frost owns a team-best .412 average and is tied with shortstop Jonathan Merritt for second on the team with 11 RBI. Catcher Digger Towe tops the Blazers with 12 RBI and three home runs.
Alabama A&M (10-1) is coming off a three-game sweep of Selma University over the weekend and will be playing its first road game of the season Tuesday at UAB.
Outfielder LaDale Hayes is hitting .500 with five doubles and 18 RBI to lead Alabama A&M offensively in the early going of 2010. Hayes' .889 slugging percentage trails teammate Deon Hall's .900 mark for tops among the Bulldogs. As a team, Alabama A&M is hitting .348, and the Bulldogs have stolen 62 bases in 67 attempts through just 11 games. Five players own at least seven steals, led by Kency Duarte with nine.
