BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB junior guard Amanda Peterson was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office on Thursday. Peterson receives the honor for the second straight year and is one of two on this year's team to earn the award multiple times.
Peterson not only has excelled on the court for the Blazers throughout her career, but also in the classroom. The Homewood, Ala., native holds a 3.6 GPA in exercise science and was named UAB Student Athlete of the Week on Dec. 9. A two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, Peterson was awarded the C-USA Academic Medal in 2009.
The 5-10 guard also has made her mark on the court this season, moving into second place in UAB history with 202 career 3-pointers. Peterson is the team's third-leading scorer at 10.3 points a game and ranks second in the league with 2.7 treys per game.
In addition to Peterson, Rice's Tara Watts has received the academic honor multiple times, earning her third straight award. Houston's Roxanna Button, East Carolina's Kim Gay, SMU's Alice Severin and Tulsa's Tiffani Couisnard round out the all-academic selections.
Peterson and the Blazers return to the hardwood Thursday for their final home game, hosting the Memphis Tigers at 7 p.m. CST. In addition to Senior Day recognition, Thursday's game will feature the Pink Zone festivities that were originally scheduled for Feb. 12.
