UAB Hosts Alabama State On Campus, Alabama At Regions Park

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB baseball team is set for a pair of midweek contests against in-state foes, including a Wednesday showdown with 23rd-ranked Alabama at Regions Park in Hoover.
The Blazers open the week Tuesday at Young Memorial Field with a 6:30 p.m. CT contest against Alabama State. UAB will then meet the Crimson Tide for a 6:30 p.m. CT first pitch Wednesday at Regions Park, home of the Double-A Birmingham Barons.
All seats for the game UAB-Alabama game are general admission, and tickets are priced at $10 for adults and $6 for kids (4-17 years old). UAB students with a valid ID and children three-years old and younger will be admitted free. Tickets are available online at uabsports.com or by calling (205) 975-UAB1. Tickets can also be purchased at the Joe Drake Ticket Office at Regions Park starting at 5 p.m. on the day of the game. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday's game with Alabama will air live in the Birmingham area with the Blazers ISP Sports Network broadcast on WJOX-AM 690, while both games this week will feature Gametracker live stats and All-Access streaming video at uabsports.com.
UAB (13-8, 2-1 C-USA) enters the week with wins in six of its past seven games after taking two out of three from Southern Miss over the weekend in its opening Conference USA series.
Freshman designated hitter John Frost continues to lead the Blazers at the plate with a .380 batting average, while first baseman Luke Stewart tops the team with 23 RBI and eight home runs, including six over the past five games. As a team, UAB is 36-for-40 on stolen base attempts, led by centerfielder Jamal Austin with 10 steals.
Alabama State (5-7, 1-4 SWAC) lost two out of three games at Alcorn State in SWAC play over the weekend but earned a 10-6 win in the series finale to avoid a sweep.
Ron James leads the Hornets at the plate with a .388 batting average and 14 RBI. As a team, Alabama State owns an overall batting average of .257.
Alabama (16-6, 2-4 SEC) got off to a 16-1 start but comes into the week looking to snap a five-game losing skid after being swept over the weekend in a three-game SEC series at Arkansas. The Crimson Tide hosts Jacksonville State on Tuesday before making the short trip to Hoover.
Taylor Dugas leads the Alabama regulars with a .461 batting average, while Josh Rutledge has driven in a team-high 26 runs. Clay Jones and Ross Wilson each own five home runs for an Alabama team that has out-scored its opponents 173-90 so far this season.
UAB and Alabama met twice last year with the Crimson Tide winning both. The last Blazer win in the series came at Regions Park on April 2, 2008 when Mitch Kloskowski threw a complete game in an 8-5 UAB victory.
