TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- The UAB track and field team concluded the Alabama Relays hosted by the University of Alabama Sunday. The Blazers finished runner-up in both the 4x800m and the 4x200m relays.
To start the day, junior Samantha Hamilton claimed a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 12.06m (39-07.00).
"UAB had a really good Alabama Relays," UAB interim head coach Kurt Thomas said. "As a coach, you always want to see your team run, jump and compete with enthusiasm, effort and fight, and our girls really did that this whole weekend. The competition was really good, but our girls showed we can run with them. It was really pleasing to see with such a young team."
In the 4x800m relay, the Green and Gold squad of Lucy Taylor, Kendel Hood, Bianca Le'Blanc and Lauren Fayen clocked a time of 9:13.30, while Shakima Knox, Timara McMillan, Akira McSwain and Angel Watson ran to a time of 1:38.21 in the 4x200m.
"The 4x200m really was a highlight of the meet," Thomas said. "Those four girls ran very well. Bianca Le'Blanc had a good meet, with a good win yesterday and two good legs on the 4x800m and 4x400m. She ran well this weekend."
In the distance medley relay, Kristina Vaughn, Rachel Harley, Lucy Taylor and Kendel Hood placed fourth with a time of 12:16.23.
A time of 3:51.62 in the 4x400m relay was good for fifth place for Angel Watson, Lytrice Thomas, Bianca Le'Blanc and Akira McSwain.
The Blazers also finished sixth in the 4x100m.
UAB returns to action April 2-3 at the Florida Relays hosted by the University of Florida.
