BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team concludes a four-game road stretch at Rice on Sunday at 2 p.m. CST.
UAB leads the series against Rice, 3-1, and has won the last three, including a 69-68 victory last January in Houston. The Blazers are 2-0 against the Owls in the Bayou City, having also claimed a 79-66 win in February of 2007.
The Blazers (10-10, 4-4 C-USA) head to Rice looking to snap a four-game skid. UAB dropped a 67-56 decision at Memphis on Thursday and lost the previous three contests by a combined six points, with two of those losses coming in overtime.
Freshman guard Jala Harris continues to pace not only the Blazers, but all of C-USA in league games, averaging 22.6 points a game. Overall, Harris' 17.4 points a game are second in the conference. The Madison, Ala., native has cracked the 20-point mark in eight of the last nine contests and has 15 double-digit games this season.
UAB remains one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the league, averaging 7.0 treys per league game to lead C-USA. The Blazers rank fourth in the conference with a 36.1 shooting percentage from beyond the arc in league games.
Rice (10-11, 4-4 C-USA) had its nine-game home winning streak snapped against Houston on Thursday, as the Cougars claimed a 72-53 win over the Owls. Prior to that, the Owls had won four of their last five, with their only loss coming in overtime at Memphis, 59-58, on Jan. 23.
Rice is led by forward Jackie Stanley, averaging 14.0 points and 7.1 rebounds a game. Guards D'Frantz Smart and Tara Watts have been the team's leading 3-point shooters at 37.3 percent and 36.2 percent, respectively. As a team, the Owls are shooting at a 36.5 percent clip overall and a 31.1 percent clip from behind the arc.
