UAB Set for Saturday Contest Against Marshall

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team wraps up the weekend with a Saturday contest against Marshall at 6 p.m. CST in Bartow Arena.
Marshall leads the overall series, 7-4, and has won the last four contests. In the last meeting between the two teams on Jan. 30, UAB guard Jala Harris scored a C-USA freshman record 40 points and the game went into double overtime before Marshall pulled out the 85-84 win.
Marshall swept the series last year with a 67-50 win in February at Bartow Arena and a 64-53 win in January in Huntington. UAB's last win against the Herd came in February of 2008 in Huntington, a 60-48 victory. Marshall owns a 3-1 advatange when playing at Bartow Arena, although UAB won the last contest in Birmingham, a 79-64 overtime victory, on Jan. 12, 2008.
The Blazers (12-14, 6-8 C-USA) are coming off a 65-57 win over East Carolina on Thursday. UAB has won its last two C-USA contests at home and is 4-2 in league games at Bartow Arena this season.
Freshman guard Jala Harris had 18 points in the Blazers' last outing and continues to lead the team with 16.9 points a game. Senior forward Tamika Dukes and junior guard Amanda Peterson are also averaging double-digit points with 12.5 and 10.4, respectively.
The Thundering Herd (14-13, 6-8 C-USA) is coming off a 62-53 loss at Memphis on Thursday. Marshall has dropped five of its last six and three straight C-USA road games.
Forward Tynikki Crook leads the Herd with 13.4 points and 7.4 rebounds a game, while forward Chantelle Handy is second on the team, averaging 11.3 points a game.
