BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Keith DePew, a sophomore member of the UAB baseball team, has been selected as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
DePew carries a 4.0 GPA as a high school education major with an emphasis in history. The Trussville, Ala., native, who has earned presidential honors in each of his semesters at UAB, received the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal last year. He is also a member of the UAB chapter of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
DePew made the start in left field in Tuesday's 2010 season-opening game at Mississippi State. As a freshman in 2009, he played in 23 games with seven starts and led all UAB reserves with a .353 batting average.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:05 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
DePew and the UAB baseball team (0-1) host Ball State this weekend for a four-game series at Young Memorial Field. Game one is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. CT and will be followed by a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday.
