BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team hosts the UCF Knights on Friday at 7 p.m. in the annual WBCA Pink Zone game. The Blazers will join with the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center in order to raise awareness for breast cancer.
UAB leads the overall series, 11-3, and won the most recent meeting against the Knights, 69-61, on Jan. 17. Before that, the Blazers had dropped the last two to UCF. The Blazers fell in both meetings last season, dropping a 74-67 decision in Birmingham on Jan. 10 before falling, 74-59, in Orlando on March 1. Prior to that, the Blazers had won eight in a row against the Knights. Overall, UAB is 4-1 when playing UCF at Bartow Arena.
Since UAB and UCF last met on Jan. 17, the Knights have won three of their last five games, including back-to-back wins over Marshall and East Carolina. The Knights knocked off the Herd, 56-47, on Thursday, then defeated the Pirates, 60-50 on Saturday.
In UAB's win in Orlando, the Blazers allowed just 19 first-half points to the Knights as freshman guard Jala Harris led all scorers with 20 points. UAB's bench out-scored UCF's, 46-6 in the contest.
Harris continues to pace the Blazer with 17.4 points a game and is averaging a league-leading 22.2 points a game in C-USA contests. Harris has reached double-digits in 15 of the last 17 games.
The Knights are led by forward Emma Cannon with 12.2 points and 9.8 rebounds a game. Guards Marshay White and Chelsie Wiley are also averaging double-digit points for UCF at 11.5 and 11.4, respectively. White is the team's leading 3-point shooter at 40.4 percent.
