COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Sophomore guard Amber Jones scored a season-high 21 points, but a late comeback for the UAB women's basketball team fell short against the Missouri Tigers in an 82-73 loss on Wednesday night at Mizzou Arena.
"I thought we struggled to find a rhythm and Missouri really had us on our heels early in the game," head coach Audra Smith said. "We were able to gain our composure and mount a comeback in the second half, but every time we'd cut it under 10 (the Tigers) were able to respond."
Jones scored 15 of her points in the second half and added five rebounds and two assists. Along with Jones, three other Blazers also cracked double figures in the contest. Sophomore guard Jala Harris tallied 15 points, marking her ninth double-digit game of the season.
Senior guard Amanda Peterson tallied 11 points and inched closer to a pair of milestones. Peterson needs just four points to crack 1,000 for her career and six 3-pointers to break the school's career record.
Junior guard LaShaunda Pratt also added 10 points for UAB.
The Tigers (8-4) also had four players reach double digits. Missouri forward Christine Flores scored a game-high 28 points, while forward Shakara Jones added 17. Guards Sydney Crafton and RaeShara Brown scored 16 and 13, respectively.
UAB (7-5) trailed by as many as 20 in the first half and was down, 47-30, at halftime. The Blazers picked up the pace in the second half, cutting the Tigers' lead to nine with 10:11 to play. UAB pulled within nine two more times in the half, but it was as close as the Blazers would get.
The Blazers return home Sunday for their final non-conference game, hosting Austin Peay at 2 p.m. in Bartow Arena.
