BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Drew Luker, a junior linebacker for the Blazer football team, has been selected as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Luker maintains a 3.41 overall GPA as a history and anthropology major. A two-time Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, he earned UAB Presidential Honors for achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA last spring.
A product of Sweet Water, Ala., Luker has played in all 11 games this year and made two starts at linebacker. He owns nine tackles, including his first career sack Oct. 23 at Mississippi State. Last Saturday against Memphis, he recovered a fumble to set up the Blazers' second touchdown in a 31-15 win.
Luker and the UAB football team (4-7, 3-4 C-USA) close out the season this weekend with a trip to Rice. The Blazers and Owls are set for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff Saturday in Houston.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:35 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
