BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Junior forwards Laura McCalla and Carolyn Polcari earned All-Conference USA Second Team honors, as announced by the league office Tuesday. It marks the first all-league honor for McCalla and second for Polcari.
"It's great to see Laura and Carolyn get this recognition," UAB head coach Paul Harbin said. "They are both wonderful ambassadors for our program, worked exceedingly hard over the last year, were extremely dangerous every time they stepped on the field and are amongst the top offensive players in the country. Not only were they dangerous on their own, but even more so in combination. I look forward to watching them take their game to the next level again next year."
McCalla led the conference with 12 goals this year and finished second in the league with 30 points. The Fayetteville, Ga., native ended the regular season ranked 20th in the nation in goals and 22nd in total points. She scored at least one goal in every weekend of action and tallied two game-winners on the season. McCalla also led the team with six assists.
Polcari, who also earned C-USA All-Freshman Team honors in 2008, ranked second on the team in points (21), goals (8) and assists (5). The Richardson, Texas, native scored five goals in C-USA action this season, tied for second most in the league. She registered the game-winning goal North Florida and recorded her third career multi-goal game against Southern Miss.
UCF's Tishia Jewell took home the 2010 C-USA Offensive Player of the Year award after topping the conference with 32 points and ranking fourth nationally with 12 assists. Memphis' Lizzy Simonin was named the 2010 C-USA Defensive Player of the Year, while the Tigers' Vendula Strnadova picked up the 2010 C-USA Midfielder of the Year honor.
