Amber Jones Named UAB Student-Athlete Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Amber Jones, a sophomore member of the Blazer women's basketball team, has been selected as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
A sophomore guard, Jones is off to a fast start on the court this year. After scoring 19 points in the Blazers' season opener against Florida A&M, she added 10 more Tuesday in a win over Jackson State. She averaged 9.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game last season in her rookie campaign.
Jones also excelled in the classroom in her freshman year, earning a spot on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. She came to UAB with plenty of academic accolades as class valedictorian at Hazlewood High School in Town Creek, Ala.
Jones and the women's basketball (1-1) team travel to Louisiana-Lafayette for a 1 p.m. CT tipoff on Saturday.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:35 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
