BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team welcomes the Jackson State Tigers Tuesday at Bartow Arena. The Blazers and Tigers will square off at 7 p.m.
UAB leads the series against Jackson State, 5-2. The Blazers and Tigers last met in 2006 when Jackson State earned a 78-67 win in Jackson, Miss. Prior to that, the Blazers had won three straight over the Tigers. UAB owns a 4-0 record against Jackson State in Bartow Arena.
The Blazers (0-1) are coming off a season-opening loss against Florida A&M, 67-65, on Sunday. Sophomore guards Jala Harris and Amber Jones each scored 19 points to lead UAB in the contest.
Jackson State (0-2) opened the season at Ole Miss Friday and dropped a 69-64 decision to the Rebels. The Tigers also fell to Southeast Missouri State on Saturday, 55-37.
Rachel Jones leads the Tigers with 11.0 points per game, while Ayanna Hardy-Fuller tops the team with 8.5 rebounds a game. Beatrice Banks has had the hot hand for JSU from beyond the arc, hitting 6-of-11 3-pointers.
