Blazers Continue Home Stretch Against Marshall, East Carolina

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's soccer team continues its home stretch this weekend against a pair of Conference USA foes. UAB welcomes Marshall Friday at 7 p.m. and concludes the weekend against East Carolina Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Blazers (5-6-1, 1-2-1 C-USA) continued Conference USA action last weekend, earning their first league win with a 6-0 domination of Southern Miss on Friday. Despite falling behind by three goals to No. 18 UCF on Sunday, UAB rallied for two goals in the second half, but was unable to net the equalizer and fell, 3-2.
UAB junior forward Laura McCalla continues to be one of the top goal-scorers in Conference USA. McCalla has nine goals this year, more than doubling her total of four from last season. Her nine goals are currently second in the league and rank 15th in the nation.
The Thundering Herd (4-5-2, 2-2 C-USA) is coming off a split weekend in C-USA action. Marshall knocked off Tulsa, 1-0, Friday before falling to SMU, 2-0, Sunday.
The Herd has four players with two goals each, led by Angela Desumma and Erika Duncan who also have two assists apiece.
Marshall has used a trio of goalkeepers between the posts this season, with Lindsey Kerns seeing the bulk of the action. Kerns has allowed five goals in 580 minutes for a 0.78 goals against average (GAA).
The Pirates (7-5, 2-2 C-USA) are also coming off a weekend split, having dropped a 1-0 decision to SMU Friday then defeating Tulsa, 2-1, Sunday.
East Carolina is led by Amanda Malkiewicz with four goals and five assists, while two other Pirates in Chrissy Gratz and Bailey Wilcox also have chipped in four goals each.
In goal for ECU, Christiane Cordero has been the staple, playing every minute this season. Cordero has allowed 18 goals with a 1.51 GAA.
