BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's soccer team travels to Memphis Thursday for its final regular season match at 7 p.m. The Blazers are still vying for the final spot in the six-team Conference USA Tournament and a win against the Tigers would guarantee UAB's eighth consecutive tournament berth.
The Blazers (8-8-2, 4-4-2 C-USA) are coming off back-to-back shutout victories at home against Houston and Rice. UAB blanked Houston, 2-0, Friday before capturing a 1-0 win against Rice Sunday.
Junior forward Laura McCalla continues to be one of the top goal scorers in Conference USA. McCalla has 12 goals this year, tripling her total of four from last season. Her 12 goals are currently tops in the league and rank 15th in the nation.
The Tigers (12-3-3, 6-1-3 C-USA) currently sit second in Conference USA, having dropped just one match in league action this year in a 2-1 loss at UTEP on Sept. 26. Since then, Memphis has an eight-game unbeaten streak, going 5-0-3 during the stretch.
Ashley Berra leads the Tigers with 15 points on five goals and five assists, while Taylor Isenhower and Vendula Strnadov each have 13 points. Isenhower has tallied five goals and three assists while Strnadov has chipped in four goals and five assists.
Between the pipes, Elise Kuhar-Pitters has carried the load. In 14 appearances she has allowed 11 goals for a 0.79 goals against average (GAA) while making 44 stops.
