BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB senior goalkeeper Kate Blankenship earned Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Blazers to a pair of shutout victories over the weekend. It marks the second weekly honor of Blankenship's career.
Blankenship matched her career-high of 12 saves, tying the sixth-most in UAB history, in the 1-0 win against Rice Sunday. The 12 stops moved her into the top spot in UAB history with 329 career saves, as she surpassed the previous record of 327 set by Lisa Nowoslawski from 1999-02. The Lizella, Ga., native also had five stops in the 2-0 win against Houston Friday.
The senior keeper continued to set a new school mark with her 20th career shutout Sunday and is tied for the most career wins in school history with 34. Former Blazer Katie Forbis also had 34 wins during her tenure from 2003-06.
Blankenship and the Blazers will travel to Memphis Thursday for the regular season finale. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
