BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Junior cornerback T.J. Ballou of the Blazer football team has been selected as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Ballou came up with a big interception in last Saturday's win over UTEP to halt a Miners' drive in the second quarter. It was one of three interceptions on the day for UAB and the second of the season for Ballou. He has started all six games and leads the Blazers with six pass breakups.
In the classroom, Ballou has maintained a cumulative 3.08 GPA as a communications studies major. The Russell, Miss., native, who graduated 10th in his high school class, has posted a 3.16 GPA at UAB since enrolling at the university in January as a transfer from East Mississippi Community College.
Ballou will be returning to his home state this weekend as the Blazer football team (2-4, 1-2 C-USA) travels to Starkville, Miss., for a 6 p.m. CT contest Saturday against Mississippi State on ESPNU.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:35 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
