Hello friends!
We had another away trip this past weekend. We went to SMU and then to Tulsa. I'll begin telling the many eventful occurrences that happened this weekend starting with showing up at the Birmingham airport. We pull up and everyone is getting their luggage off the bus when Camille Walters realizes she doesn't have her license! And if you don't know, you need your license to get on an airplane. So thankfully the bus driver is nice enough to take her all the way back to Bartow Arena to grab it. She eventually makes it back before our plane leaves, thank goodness! But before getting on the plane we have to walk through security. This is where I start having problems. I give my ID and ticket to the lady so I can go through but instead of checking it and letting me go, she asked me to step to the side. I wasn't really sure what was going on. Well, apparently I had something printed on my ticket that meant that I needed to get searched extra. I had to go and get patted down then wait till the employees went through all my bags. They even had to swab all my things and test the swabs in some kind of machine I guess to make sure I didn't have anything I wasn't supposed to have on them, (of course I didn't). After waiting around for about 10 minutes, I was finally able to go. I'm still not too sure what all that was about but at least I made it on the plane!
We make it to Dallas that evening and Rebecca Whittle is from Dallas so we all go over to her parents' house for dinner. They were very generous to let our entire team come over. We had a nice pasta dinner and just hung out there for a while mingling. Friday was our game against SMU. We weren't able to finish off that game and ended up losing 3-1.
Saturday morning we travel Tulsa. That afternoon after our practice we get back to the hotel and are waiting to get our room assignments. We get them but before we all go to our rooms Coach Harbin tells us that some people have laundry duty. Camille Walter has it for forgetting her ID, Emma Smith and Tiffini Turpin have it for being late to get on the vans while in Dallas, and Abby Phillips has it for forgetting the camera at the SMU game. Funny story with why Abby forgot the camera. While at the hotel in Dallas I was walking around and notice that her and Morgan Haney's door was open so I walk in to say hi but no one was in the room. Well I see this as a perfect opportunity to be sneaky so I decide to move some of their stuff around. I put a backpack in the bathroom, switch their bags, and put the camera in a cabinet. Well I thought that Abby would have noticed I moved the camera but instead she just didn't see it before the game and so that's why she forgot it. So after all of that, it was partly my fault she forgot the camera so I go and do laundry with them cause I felt bad for making her forget it. All five of us get taken to a laundromat. Let's just say it was an interesting trip to the laundromat but we eventually get it all done.
That night we go out for dinner at a spaghetti restaurant. We all eat our dinners and after we are all done the waitress comes over and asks if anyone wants dessert. Dessert is not a typical thing we are allowed to get when we eat with the team so no one really says anything. Then coach asks us if we want anything and of course we all do, but are not expecting to get any. Well this past week was fall break for UAB and so coach decides that since we didn't really get a fall break because we were traveling, that getting dessert could be our little substitute. It was funny when he said we could get dessert because the entire table starts cheering and going crazy. Stephanie Henderson even begins to cry she's so excited. Hahaha it was really funny.
Finally Sunday rolls around and it's time to play Tulsa. We were doing alright at half time and were tied 1-1 but had a lapse and got behind. We ended that game losing 4-1. It was tough. But we have some games this weekend and we will make up for this past weekend.
Friday night we play Houston at 7 p.m. at home. This is senior night. *Tear.* Kate Blankenship, Morgan Haney, Marie Yempuku, and I are the four seniors on the team this year and we will be recognized at the beginning of the game. Then Sunday we play Rice at 1 p.m. This is our last home game of the season and for the seniors, our last home game at UAB. This is also Coach Harbin's last home game as UAB's coach as well because, if you haven't heard, he is retiring after this season so he can spend more time with his family. We need to get a big crowd out there this weekend to help support us to a pair of wins! Come come come!!
