UAB Looks to Extend Winning Streak Against Tulsa

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team looks to win its fourth game in a row when it hosts the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday at 4 p.m. (CT) at Bartow Arena. The game will air live on CBS College Sports and delayed on CSS on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 5 p.m. (CT).
UAB leads the overall series against Tulsa, 5-1, and has won the last five in a row. In February of 2009, the Blazers knocked off the Golden Hurricane, 72-63, at Bartow Arena. Junior guard Amanda Peterson was unstoppable in the contest, scoring a career-high 28 points, including eight 3-pointers, also a career-high. The only other meeting between the two teams in Birmingham was in January of 2007, with UAB claiming a 76-60 win.
The Blazers have won five of their last six entering Saturday's contest. Freshman guard Jala Harris leads UAB with 14.4 points and 3.4 assists a game. Senior forward Tamika Dukes has continued her consistency, reaching double figures in 12 of 13 contests this season while averaging 13.0 points and a team-leading 7.3 rebounds a game.
Tulsa enters Saturday's contest with a 6-6 record. The Golden Hurricane is coming off a 77-72 loss in its C-USA opener at Memphis on Thursday. Prior to that, Tulsa had won three in a row. The Golden Hurricane is led by forward Larrissa Williams with 15.6 and 9.0 rebounds a game. Guard Taleya Mayberry has also been solid for Tulsa, averaging 12.2 points and 3.5 assists a game.
