BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team continues its road stretch with a Saturday contest at Marshall. The Blazers and Herd tip off at 6 p.m. CST.
Marshall leads the overall series, 6-4, and has won the last three contests. The Herd swept the series last year with a 67-50 win in February at Bartow Arena and a 64-53 win in January in Huntington. UAB's last win came in February of 2008 in Huntington, a 60-48 victory. The series is even, 2-2, when playing at the Cam Henderson Center.
The Blazers (10-8, 4-2 C-USA) are coming off a heartbreaking loss at East Carolina on Thursday. UAB fell, 78-74, in overtime to the Pirates and moved into a tie for third place in Conference USA.
Freshman guard Jala Harris continues to pace the league in C-USA games, scoring 20.2 points per contest. Overall, Harris is scoring 15.9 points a game, good for fifth in the conference. Senior forward Tamika Dukes is the team's second-leading scorer with 12.4 points a game and has reached double-figures in 13 straight contests.
After dropping its C-USA opener to East Carolina, Marshall (12-8, 4-3 C-USA) won four of its next five league games before falling to Memphis, 57-50, on Thursday. The Herd is led by Tynikki Crook, who suffered a hand injury against Houston on Jan. 17 and will likely miss Saturday's contest. Crook was averaging 13.4 points and 7.2 rebounds a game. After Crook, Chantelle Handy is Marshall's top scorer with 10.8 points a game and Raechele Gray is the team's leading 3-point shooter at 45.5 percent.
