First-Place Blazers Host Houston on Sunday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Seeking its seventh straght win, the UAB women's basketball team looks to remain the only undefeated team in Conference USA when it hosts Houston on Sunday at 4 p.m. CST in Bartow Arena. The game will air on CBS College Sports and CSS, with Ann Schatz and Tammy Blackburn on the call.
Although the series between UAB and Houston is even at 9-9, the Cougars have had the upper hand lately, winning six of the last seven meetings. The last time the two teams met in Birmingham was February of 2008 when Houston came away with an 80-76 overtime victory. The Blazers last defeated the Cougars, 84-63, in February of 2007 in Houston, while the last UAB win in Birmingham was an 86-55 win in February of 2002. Overall, the Blazers are 5-3 against the Cougars at Bartow Arena.
UAB (10-6, 4-0 C-USA) is coming off a pair of conference road wins last weekend. The league-leading Blazers defeated Southern Miss, 49-46, on Friday before knocking off UCF, 69-61, on Sunday.
Freshman guard Jala Harris continues to lead the Green and Gold with 14.8 points and 3.4 assists a game. Senior forward Tamika Dukes has reached double-figures in 11 straight games, averaging 12.6 points a team-leading 7.1 rebounds a game.
After opening conference play 2-0, the Cougars (8-9, 2-2 C-USA) dropped a pair of games last weekend, falling, 94-87, to East Carolina in overtime on Friday before losing a 66-61 decision to Marshall on Sunday.
Houston is led by Brittney Scott with 17.5 points a game, while Courtney Taylor is averaging 14.1 points and a team-leading 9.9 rebounds a game. The Cougars are shooting at a 39.1 percent clip, while opponents are shooting 40.5 percent.
