BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Jala Harris, a freshman guard for the Blazer women's basketball team, has been named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Harris, a former 6A Player of the Year for Bob Jones High School in Madison, Ala., owns a 3.5 cumulative GPA in her first year at UAB.
The Blazers' leading scorer as a freshman, Harris is averaging 14.9 points per game. She scored 21.5 points per contest over UAB's first two league games last week against SMU and Tulsa on her way to Conference USA Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:05 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
Harris and the Blazers (8-6, 2-0 C-USA) will ride a four-game winning streak into their next contest when they travel to Southern Miss for a 7 p.m. CT tipoff on Friday.
