Harris Garners C-USA Freshman of the Week Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB freshman guard Jala Harris was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week after leading the Blazers to a pair of conference wins. It marks the second weekly award for Harris this season and the second week in a row a Blazer has earned the honor.
Harris averaged 21.5 points a game in UAB's wins over SMU and Tulsa to open C-USA play. In the 62-60 conference-opening win against SMU, Harris tallied 21 points, including a 6-of-7 performance from the stripe. She also chipped in three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Against Tulsa, the Madison, Ala., native put up 22 points and dished out four assists.
UAB has earned freshman weekly honors three times this season. Harris received the honor after the first week of the season and guard Amber Jones received the accolade last week.
Harris and the Blazers continue conference action on Friday at Southern Miss. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
