Three Blazers Finish In Top 20 At 2009 State Amateur

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Three UAB men's golfers closed play in the top-20 at the 93rd Alabama Men's State Amateur Championship played over the weekend at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Ala. Kaylor Timmons finished second overall, followed by Blake West in third, while Adam West wound up in a tie for 18th overall.
Timmons and Blake West were two of only three golfers in the 65-man field to finish at or below par on the par 72, 7,151-yard Greystone Legacy Course.
Timmons finished in second overall with a one-under par 287 (72-72-70-73) in the 72-hole tournament. Blake West, who was the overall leader through the opening three rounds, closed the 2009 event in third overall with an even par 288 (72-70-69-77). Hunter Hamrick, who just finished his freshman season at Alabama, won the event with a six-under par 282 (72-67-76-67).
Blake's twin brother Adam also fared well, as he wound up in a four-way tie for 18th overall with an 8-over par 295 (73-73-70-80). Fellow Blazer Blake Watts also competed in the tournament and placed in a tie for 35th overall.
