BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Sunday's baseball series finale between UAB and Memphis at Young Memorial Field has been cancelled.
The game was initially delayed by a tornado warning in Jefferson County. During that delay, heavy rains hit Young Memorial Field. Because of the wet field and the forecast for continued severe weather, the game has been called off. It will not be made up.
UAB (26-20, 8-9 Conference USA) won both games in the rain-shortened weekend series, taking a 9-8 victory on Friday and a 9-7 win on Saturday thanks to a Brint Hardy walk-off home run in the ninth inning.
The Blazers will return to action Tuesday with the first game of a home-and-home midweek series against Jacksonville State. The teams will play Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. (CT) in Jacksonville, Ala., and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Birmingham.
