Blazers Finish Tied For Ninth At Reunion Intercollegiate

MADISON, Miss. - The UAB men's golf team closed play at the Reunion Intercollegiate tied for ninth overall with a 927 (309-313-305) during the two-day, 54-hole event. The tournament was the final tune up before the 2009 Conference USA Championship.
The Blazers closed the event tied with UNC Greensboro in the ninth position. LSU, ranked No. 29 in the country, captured the tournament title with an 889, while No. 19 Arkansas finished second (892). Vanderbilt was third (900), while No. 30 Ole Miss (902) and North Florida (914) rounded out the top five.
"We played better today but we still need to make improvements," UAB head coach Alan Kaufman said. "I thought we were better today, but we need to be consistent. This was a very tough course and we had to deal with high winds and cool temperatures all week. Hopefully we are going to be well prepared going into the Conference USA Championships."
Senior Zack Sucher led the Blazers for the first time this spring and the sixth time in UAB's 10 tournaments this season. Sucher finished the event tied for ninth overall with an 11-over par 227 (74-76-77).
Junior Blake West finished two strokes back of Sucher, carding a 229 on the par 72, 7,305-yard Reunion Country Club course. West recorded the lowest UAB score during the third round with a two-over par 74, which followed his opening day scores of 77 (first round) and 78 (second round).
Junior John Darby tied for 41st overall after recording a 234 (77-78-79, while classmate Adam West tied for 50th with a 237 (81-81-75). Redshirt freshman Blake Watts rounded out the Blazers in 65th with a 244.
The Blazers will have nearly two weeks to prepare for the upcoming 2009 C-USA Championship, which is set to take place in Orlando, Fla. on April 19-21.
