BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB men's golfer Adam West was selected to the 2009 Conference USA All-Academic team, league officials announced on Wednesday. The team, which consists of one senior, three juniors and two sophomores, is made up of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a regular participant on their team.
West is one of two Blazers to play in all 10 tournaments during the 2008-09 campaign. The Montgomery, Ala. native will enter the C-USA Championship averaging 74.59 strokes per round, which ranks third-lowest on the team. Earlier this season, West recorded a career-best fourth-place finish at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate where he fired a career-low round of 67.
Off the course, West is performing just as well. The business administration major maintains a 3.2 GPA and is a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member.
Five other golfers from around the league joined West on the team: East Carolina's Warren Straub, Memphis' Brad Benjamin, Rice's Robert Burrow, Tulsa's Rob Laird and UTEP's Herbert Day.
West and his Blazer teammates are making final preparations for the 2009 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship, which will take place April 19-21 at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla. The Championship will be hosted by UCF and the Florida Sports Commission.
